Robious Volunteer FAQ

We are so excited to be able to help our teachers and students again. The following are some frequently asked questions and tips that you may find helpful as you begin to volunteer. If you have any other questions, please email robiouselempta@gmail.com.

1. What do I need to do to be eligible to volunteer?
If you would like to volunteer you’ll need to complete a Chesterfield County volunteer
application and background check. https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NDYyOmVuLVVT#
You may also use this link to see if your previous background check is still valid.
2. Can I bring younger siblings with me when I volunteer?
No. You may not bring younger siblings even if you plan to bring a tablet or other
entertainment. This can be very disruptive to the class and you will be unable to fully focus
on assisting the students and teacher.
3. How do I sign up to volunteer in my child’s class?
You will receive an email through PTBoard from your room parent with a link to a signup.
Click the link and find a day that works for you. Please only sign up for one slot to begin with
so that all parents have an opportunity to volunteer. If the sign up still has available volunteer
slots after a certain amount of time, the room parent will let you know it is okay to sign up for
multiple days.
4. What types of things will I be doing when I volunteer?
You may be asked to do things such as the following: work with students one on one or in
small groups with reading or math, help a teacher prepare folders or papers for an upcoming
assignment, help with hanging or taking down artwork/bulletin boards, filing papers, being a
mystery reader, cutting out papers, helping with special classroom activities or parties, etc.
5. What do I do when I volunteer for the first time?
Bring your ID (Driver’s License) with you to the school for the office staff to scan before your
first time volunteering. Please allow a few minutes extra for this process before your
scheduled volunteer time.
6. What do I do when I get to school to volunteer?
Always Check in at the front office and print your badge before going to the classroom. Then
go directly to the classroom.
7. Can I visit my other children at school after I volunteer?
No. Only go to the classroom where you are volunteering. Do not visit other classes or other
areas of the school as this may be disruptive.
8. Can I show up to volunteer if I have free time?
You may only volunteer in classrooms when you have signed up to do so. Please do not
show up at other times.
9. What are the rules for working with students in small groups?
Confidentiality is of utmost importance as you may often be working with students who need
academic help. These situations are only to be discussed with the teacher. Teachers will give
you specific instructions upon arrival of how they want you to help students in their small
groups.
10. Can I volunteer in other places in the school besides the classroom?
Yes. There may be other opportunities to help in the school library or other areas soon. Be
on the lookout for signups.
11. Can I have lunch with my child?
No. At this time there will be NO LUNCH VISITS

Did you know that Chesterfield County Schools requires a current background check be on file for ALL classroom helpers or field trip volunteers?

This is NOT the same thing as having your driver's license scanned in at the front desk.  If you have not yet completed this requirement click HERE to be taken to the county website.  The process requires a drivers license/state ID and takes less than 2 minutes to complete and approvals are usually fast. Learn More about Volunteering

Don't have an active profile? Complete the background check and it will be valid for two years.  It takes only minutes to complete. Get verified today!
